Grey Fox
Aspen Fire Rescue
`

In the summer of 2003, the Aspen fire burned 85,000 acres in the Santa Catalina Mountains in Tucson Arizona. This devastating fire left many injured and displaced wild animals.

Above is a female fox that had recently given birth. All four paws and her ears were burnt. We think she stayed in the area because of her babies, who probably died in the fire or from lack of milk. Because of the severe burns on her paws, the pads will not re-grow to full thickness.

Our grey fox has healed from her injuries and is able to walk again on her newly grown pads. However, because of the severe nature of her injuries, she is not able to be released back into the wild.

She will be joining another fox at the Prescott Zoo, which we are very excited about. This will put her at an altitude that will be comparable to where she was found on Mt. Lemmon and she will also have a friend to be with.
